Ah, a most auspicious moment in any blogger’s career: the first post.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Alex, and I am a twenty seven year old male living in Minnesota, the land that brought you the musical genius of Bob Dylan, Prince and Atmosphere, as well as the might of Mr. Perfect and Kevin Sorbo (you’re especially welcome for that last one).
That gives us the “who” and the “where.” “When” is not terribly applicable. “How” is something I’ll leave to your parents or significant other to explain to you (don’t feel bad, I never got the “birds and the bees” talk, either), so we’ll skip over that.
What am I?
I go by many monikers. I call myself a poet, though you’ve likely never read a thing I’ve written. I work in IT, once moonlighted as a Marvel Comics fanboy, remember the blood code for the original Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis, think A Song of Ice and Fire is one of the greatest pieces of fiction written in the last century, play tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons, and have read nearly a third of the Star Wars expanded Universe books.
“Nerd,” I believe, is the term.
Hobbies do not make the man, I am told, but I understand the need for certain benchmarks when it comes to weighing the worth of my opinion on certain aspects of pop culture. Now that the scales are calibrated, let us move on.
“Why?”
Why am I writing a blog? Perhaps it is because I feel I have stories to offer and opinions to share that might amuse or otherwise entertain wayward travellers. Perhaps it is because I am trying to saturate the internet with as many pieces of my writing as possible as a means of getting attention. Perhaps it is because I wish to network and build a digital conscience in which like minds might swim in one collective pool of thought.
The “why” is always what nettles. It lingers, whirring and buzzing with an incessant sound that haunts you, even while asleep. Even when you forget, it echoes, as though it is always just beneath the surface.
It is a devilish thing, “why.” Perhaps, in writing and reading, we will discover the answer together. The devil is in the details, they say, so if you have the time, I will do what I can to make these writings worth your while. Maybe just a chuckle, maybe just a moment of thought, maybe just a temporary distraction. Whether it’s a recounting, a story, or whatever else might happen to grace these pages, I hope you enjoy it.
